Overview

One time in explaining the principles of the "Higher Life" to a woman with a hungry heart on our way to the 5th Charismatic Conference at Notre Dame this is what happened: When I returned home, my wife Mary Ann informed me that she had received a letter stating that MaryAnn's husband had greatly blessed her in making clear the Holy Spirit's Scriptures to her, and was rejoicing that she received the Holy Spirit after that. She had signed the letter: Maria von Trapp (The Sound of Music). Like many others that have followed the example of Mary the mother of our Lord Jesus, Mary was one of the recipients that received the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit at the Feast of Pentecost, "These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren...And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues..." (Acts 1:14, 2:4, KJV). Dr. Chuck Flynn, by these expressions, of the notion by which the Word of God is stated is "testimonies"; whereby is intended the whole declaration of God's will. However, in every portion, it is the fruit of deep experience, careful observation, earnest meditation, and the Blessed Holy Spirit's Divine guidance into all Truth. As the Psalmist David, may we be equally hearty lovers of His Holy Spirit. King David yearned to portray the Heart of God to mortal man by his "Songs of Degrees." In like manner, the author has equally desired to excel in breath of thought, depth of meaning, and the height of fervor in full counsel of divine guidance. The mentality of the superficial believer conducts their lives as though they were playing a harp on one string. This spiritual shallowness leads to pious repetition and redundancy. This formality hinders the Holy Spirit's deliverance and infilling of the "Glory of God" for those desiring the Lord's favor. " "Thy Word is forever settled in Heaven" (Psalms 119:89). God's present Word to us cannot then be unsettled. It is calling us to this Higher Life, for Jesus said, "Whoever find his [lower] life will lose it [the higher life], and whoever loses his [lower] life on My account will find it [the higher life]." (Matthew 10:39, Amplified)
